On My Table | Momma's Fried Green Tomatoes

fried green tomato 1 fried green tomato 2Y'all know on Sundays I go to my parents house and spend time with my family. The past two weeks I've been craving fried green tomatoes - last Sunday my mom made a batch and they were so good! So, this past Sunday I asked my mom her secrets and she showed me step by step how to make the most delicious fried green tomatoes. This was my first time making them, my mom also had some okra from her garden that I fried up as well! I'm sharing how this is done and I truly hope y'all enjoy because these are some of my favorites! fried green tomato 3        Ingredients:

  • Green Tomatoes
  • Okra
  • Self Rising Flour
  • Corn Meal Mix
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Cayenne Pepper

Wash the green tomatoes and okra. Cut the green tomatoes into quarter inch pieces and cut the okra in half. Once you've cut the vegetables sprinkle both sides of the tomatoes and okra with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper. Heat oil on the stove, I used vegetable oil, let the oil heat up - splash a small amount of the flour in the oil to see if it sizzles. Once the oil is heated, coat each tomato slice in the flour then corn meal mix. Place the tomato in the oil and let it sit until golden brown, which takes about 5 minutes, flip the tomato on the other side and let cook until crispy all over. Take the tomatoes out and place on a paper towel to drain the oil. Top with some hot sauce and you've got yourself something so delicious!
